MIR’s Inaugural First and Final is Almost Here
Maryland International Raceway will host the Inaugural ATI Performance Products First and Final presented by AutoFab Racecars big money bracket race August 28-30 2009. This will be the highest payout bracket race in MIR’s history with potentially more than $100,000 to win on Saturday alone. First and Final is set to be one of the biggest and most widely attended races in MIR history. First and Final is a Top ET/Super Pro only race where no other classes will be run. This new and innovative race is the first of its kind. Specifically, 100% of the gate entry fee paid by the racers will be paid back to the racers. 50% of the gate money goes to the first round winners’ pot and the other 50% will go to the overall race winner’s purse. This is the first big money bracket race where racers who win first round are guaranteed to get 100% of their entry fee back, and at a minimum break even for the day.
Compared with other big money bracket races this race has huge potential since the purse is not limited to a set dollar amount. For instance, if you enter a $10,000 to win race and 300 cars show up, the winner will still only get a shot at the same $10,000 they would have run for if only 100 cars showed up. A racer would have to battle through a minimum of 4 or 5 rounds to break even and 9 tough rounds to get the winner’s purse. But at First and Final, the more cars that show up, the more the winner’s prize is. In the case of Saturday’s $1,000 entry fee race, if 200 cars enter, the winner’s purse is $100,000 but if 300 enter the purse swells to $150,000 to the winner. In most big money bracket races, less than 20% of the entire field will break even with regards to entry fee. The First and Final setup guarantees that 50% of the field will at least break even.
One of the concerns about this race is the 50% of the money to the winner only aspect of the race. This race is truly a gamblers race in that sense. But anyone who has ever been in the late rounds of any bracket race, regardless of the purse size, knows that there is a lot money shuffling that takes place. And this race is no different. MIR does not expect all of the winner’s money to paid only to the winner. In fact, Royce Miller, owner of MIR, will be at the head of staging during the late rounds to help with the negotiations and keep track of what deals were made. And there are always the kickbacks and deals worked out between two racers who have to run each other in an earlier round. With a big car count at this race, there will be a lot of money on top to be kicked to the late round runners up.
One of the most exciting new ideas incorporated into this race is the team challenge on Sunday. This team challenge is presented by Autofab Racecars. The idea is simple, get a group of 8 racers together pick a team name. On Sunday, MIR track officials will keep a points system for the teams, and the team with the most points at the end of the day walks away with cool $8,000. That’s $1,000 a man if you decide to divide it evenly. And the best part about the team challenge is, IT’S FREE! Autofab and MIR are putting up all of the money and it requires absolutely no money from the racers. Also, you can enter the team challenge whether you race in Saturday’s $1,000 entry fee race or not. You are only allowed to be on one team, and other than that there are no stipulations on entry to the team challenge.
“We want this to become our signature big buck event” stated Royce Miller. “The race that every big buck racer puts on their calendar each year as a can’t miss event. Many racers have family, crew and friends pitching in on Saturday’s $1,000 entry fee just to have a piece of that potential $100,000. I am looking forward to seeing many of the big buck racers I used to travel and race with. This race is for you!”
Come and be part of the one of the most radical big money bracket races ever. All racing will take place on the eighth mile at an IHRA national event facility. Competitors from any and all sanctioning bodies are welcome to attend. And if you think you can bottom bulb with these guys, please come down and give these top bulbers a run for their money. It is set to be a truly great event. So come down and be a part of the ATI Performance First and Final presented by Autofab Racecars.
